The air quality is generally acceptable for most individuals. However, sensitive groups may experience minor to moderate symptoms from long-term exposure. BUFFALO, N.Y. Sept. 23-24, 2020 — Police say one civilian and two police officers, one a NYS Trooper, were injured tonight after a driver and passenger in a pickup truck blew through a crowd of police and protesters outside of City Hall in Buffalo's Niagara Square tonight (Wednesday). Several news crews were on the scene when the pickup truck went through the group and continued to drive off. As of early Thursday that driver and passenger are in police custody. The civilian who was on a bicycle when struck was taken to Erie County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The two injured officers are expected to recover.
The Buffalo march had been peaceful up to that point. Buffalo Police say they are investigating the Niagara Square incident.
The protest was in response to only one former officer being charged in the Louisville, Kentucky case of Breonna Taylor's death. The officer, however, was not charged with her death but with wonton reckless disregard in the firing of his weapon without knowing where the shots were going. In Louisville, two police officers were shot in the protests there. Their injuries were non-life-threatening.
We are providing two videos of the street incident but ask you to be warned and use discretion in viewing them.
The first video contains updated information on the two officers who are expected to recover. The second by Sun media gives a longer view of the situation. To see the videos, click on:
Quinn Bellamy of the Silver Lake Marine, huddled with Doug Kelly at the Silver Lake Public Boat Launch at State Park.to coordinate the preparations for the off season. Both concluded that they needed to pull the state launch ramp dock sooner than normal and were planning to do so next week. Mark Emmerson of the Silver Lake Association asked them to leave the launches in an extra weekend to give the Lakers a bit more time to get their boats out. They agreed to leave them in through through Sunday, October 4th. They will be pulled on October 5th. Looking toward community leaders and local news media, Mark asked, "Will you please start spreading the word? There are still a lot of boats on the lake and now just two weekends remaining to get them pulled."
"Teddy has been influenced by a non-tropical storm system in the upper levels of the atmosphere," explained AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson. "This gave Teddy some extra energy Monday night into Tuesday, causing it to re-strengthen for a time. This is also caused it to undergo a process called 'extratropical transition,' where the structure of the storm changes, and it's technically no longer a [hurricane]."
